The Nordsee Ost offshore wind farm consists of 48 wind turbines with a total capacity of 295 MW. The wind farm is situated in the German Bight, the south-eastern part of the North Sea. As part of the project, VBMS was contracted to install the 52 infield cables.
VBMS completed the first part of infield cable installation for the Nordsee Ost offshore wind farm in August 2013. VBMS started its work on 3 August and completed installation of the 25 cables within the space of a month, ahead of schedule.
VBMS was able to bring the start of the project forward by having temporary use of the CLV Normand Flower, which had already finished cable installation, likewise ahead of schedule, at the Meerwind Süd | Ost offshore wind farm.
The work at Nordsee Ost was planned to continue up until the start of April 2014. The remaining 27 cables were installed using the Stemat Spirit, which is usually mobilised for installation of export cables to connect wind farms to the offshore or onshore grid. For the Nordsee Ost Project, the vessel was converted for infield cable installation, connecting the wind turbines to the offshore substation. During cable installation a crane vessel was deployed to accommodate logistics of pull-in equipment.
