Job role: Deputy Offshore Superintendent
Employee since: July 2010
"After 12 years in building construction, I decided to try out the offshore wind industry at another company in Belgium. After a successful interview at VBMS, I was employed in the role of Deck Foreman on the Stemat Spirit (a cable lay vessel for export cables and ploughing). A year later, I became Deputy Offshore Superintendent and took on more responsibility. One of my greatest successes at VBMS was the Anholt project in Denmark. The project was completed 12 days ahead of schedule – unique on a project of this size. It was a fantastic team effort.
These days, I have many great projects lined up for the future. VBMS has given me the opportunity to work on diverse projects, in different countries with new challenges. I've been supported in my development with ongoing training at every step of the way."
Job role: Manager Research, Development & Support
Employee since: 2010
"My career at VBMS began in 2010, when I was employed as a Senior Geotechnical Engineer in the Engineering Department. I immediately felt at home at VBMS because of my background in the offshore pipeline installation and burial industry at Visser & Smit Hanab (VBMS's sister company).
My first job at VBMS was assessing offshore soil conditions to predict the suitability of different trenching machines for power cable burial. Today, I am the Head of the Research, Development and Support Department. I lead a team of mechanical, civil, maritime, industrial, geotechnical and geographical engineers who support project teams with computer models, calculations and detailed burial assessments.
Our team uses state-of-the-art software to remain ahead of our competitors. We research to advance our knowledge and develop new technologies to improve processes and standardise our procedures. Our department supports VBMS to remain the world's foremost supplier of offshore power cables."
